It so happened that a couple of years back, a bunch of us siblings along with our respective spouses happened to be together in the City of Joy and planned for a night out that spelt – fancy booze, upbeat music, shisha and lip smacking appetizers.
And we straightaway headed to Backstage, the popular rock pub plus dance & night club of Kolkata, located at Sec V in Salt Lake.
While some enjoyed a few or all of the aforesaid pleasures, my personal interest lied only in the food part, which was thankfully ordered by yours truly on popular demand!
Keeping the ambience and ongoing state of affairs in mind, I ordered the following items –
– Veg Nachos Wachos
– Aatish-E-Aloo
– Chonk Ki Tikki
– Subz Naram Seekh Kebab
– Nadru Ke Chips
– Assorted Chef’s Special Veg Platter
– Bar-be-qued Cottage Cheese Onion and Bell Pepper with Pineapple Chunks Pizza

All the items tasted nice & distinct and paired well with the aerated drinks, mocktails and cocktails on the table.

The entire food selection costed us around Rs. 3,000/-.
Out of the host of artisanal cocktails being ordered, personally, I only tasted –
– Tequila Shot, that we all gulped together before the fire show performed by the bartender on the bar table.

– Jaägerbomb, the fancy looking German cocktail, which is ‘a mixed drink made by dropping a shot of Jägermeister into an energy drink’.
Herein, they filled a shot glass with Jägermeister, placed it upside down in a rocks glass, so as to seal it’s surface and filled the rocks glass with an energy drink.
For few of us first timers, the arrangement looked quite fancy and amusing. Most of us took off the pint glass, placed it aside and gulped down the concoction, while a couple of smarties held down the pint glass with their thumb, gulped the energy drink, removed the pint glass and finally drank Jägermeister!
Being a teetotaler, I cannot really comment on how good or authentic the aforementioned drinks were. But consuming them in a safe group amidst the eclectic ambience of Backstage was great fun. It was like, every round of drink created a burst of energy all around.
Shisha was also rampant on the table, but I could never ready myself to inhale one, so I refrained from experiencing any.
However, I was quite amused with the selection of flavors available. Also, I realized that for Shisha-pro folks, inhaling Shisha in a pub or lounge is not just about the inhale, but they create quite a ruckus with the exhaled smoke. It’s a healthy show-off of lungs power and creativity.
Note: Please keep in mind that the current menu may not have all the aforementioned items, as this dining happened a couple of years back.
